In our previous article, we described how countries celebrate World Oceans Day, Then, how does Germany celebrate World Oceans Day? Every year during World Oceans Day, Germany holds a beach clean-up, a photo competition on the theme of World Oceans Day and much more.
In addition, Germany has also designated the second Saturday of June as the Kieler Woche, during which sailing competitions are held, sailors and tourists are invited to celebrate.
The oceans are the original cradle of life and support more than half of all life on Earth. Yet human activity is taking a terrible toll on the marine world.
Every year, up to 10 million tonnes of waste is discharged from land into the sea, 75% of which is plastic waste. In such a hostile environment, the North Sea and Baltic Sea in northern Germany are not immune to plastic pollution.
Scientists estimate that some 600,000 cubic metres of rubbish are stored on the Baltic Sea floor alone. This is equivalent to 1.5 times the volume of Cologne Cathedral, and the amount of hard-to-degrade plastic waste continues to increase.
To tackle plastic pollution in the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, The German Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (Deutscher Naturschutzring) launched a project in 2010 called „Meere ohne Plastik“, means “A sea without plastic”.
The Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union collaborates with fishermen and water athletes to collect data, organize beach and river bank cleanups, and support environmental monitoring in the North and Baltic Seas.
On the political and economic level, The Deutscher Naturschutzring is also actively promoting more advanced harbour and coastal waste disposal methods to prevent waste from reaching the sea.
It is worth mentioning that people’s efforts have paid off. After being extinct in Germany for several years, the once endangered white-tailed sea eagle returned to Germany in 2018 and settled and thrived in the states of Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Brandenburg.
On the occasion of World Oceans Day 2022, OUCO, a Chinese company engaged in the offshore industry for more than 30 years, is about to hold a Global Marine Festival. Factory hot product subsidies will continue throughout the month of June, giving special offers to the marine and offshore industry.
In addition, on June 8, the OUCO factory will conduct a global live broadcast to popularize marine knowledge, introduce hot sale marine products and pay tribute to marine workers.
Let’s practice the green concept together for the survival and development of all mankind, help the cause of marine protection and jointly promote the sustainable development of the ocean.
