OUCO’s 1.6-ton, 27-meter knuckle boom crane, specially designed to operate in the harsh Nordic climate of -40°C, has successfully completed all inspections and is now preparing for delivery to Europe.
These cranes will be installed on an icebreaker vessel, providing reliable support in polar waters and marking a new milestone for OUCO in extreme cold operations.
Flexible Multi-Mode Control
Operating in polar regions requires cranes with exceptional control flexibility. OUCO’s 1.6T27M crane is equipped with three control modes to handle different working conditions with ease:
- Local Control – A console next to the crane allows close-range, high-precision operation, ideal for commissioning, maintenance, and confined spaces.
- Operator Cab – From the cab’s wide-view windows, the operator can monitor the entire operation and handle heavy lifting tasks efficiently.
- Wireless Remote Control – For hazardous or hard-to-reach areas, remote control ensures safe and convenient operation at a distance.
Adaptability for Harsh Polar Conditions
To cope with the demanding environment in Nordic waters, the crane offers multiple operating modes, ensuring reliable performance even at -40°C.
- Static Load Mode – Provides stable handling for equipment installation or long-term cargo storage, keeping loads secure.
- Sea State Level 3 – Maintains high stability and precision during lifting tasks, even in challenging sea conditions with waves and freezing temperatures.
- Personal Lifting Mode – Equipped with full safety features, the crane can lift personnel securely for inspections and maintenance at elevated positions.
Safety and Cold Protection Design
Beyond control flexibility, the crane is engineered with advanced safety and cold-weather features to guarantee uninterrupted operation in extreme environments.
Mechanical Drum Technology – Supports both vertical and diagonal lifting. Vertical lifting handles nets and catches efficiently, while diagonal lifting makes the crane more versatile for vessels with limited deck space.
Protective Features – A hook limiter cover prevents freezing, while an anti-overwind switch reduces rope entanglement risks. Additional protective covers safeguard the cab and slewing reducer, preventing damage and operator frostbite.
Smart Cab Environment – The operator cab is fitted with an intelligent temperature control system, including a heater and ceiling-mounted air conditioner. It automatically adjusts to maintain a comfortable temperature, ensuring safety and focus in both freezing cold and warm conditions.
Extra Safety Layers – Pressure sensors on the oil cylinder and winch, along with multiple control systems and emergency stop buttons in the cab and on the column, ensure reliable safety at all times.
A Step Toward Global Expansion
The delivery of these two 1.6T27M extreme cold knuckle boom cranes is a strong demonstration of OUCO’s engineering capabilities and commitment to innovation. More than just equipment, they represent OUCO’s dedication to supporting international customers with reliable, high-quality solutions for the toughest environments.
Looking ahead, OUCO will continue to invest in research and development, producing cranes that adapt to different industries and operational challenges worldwide—helping customers work safely, efficiently, and with confidence in any environment.
